January Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Birdsall
January Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Birdsall
West Harrison
Thursday, January 09, 2020

Mrs. Birdsall has been teaching for 30 years, with 18 of those years being at West Harrison.  She graduated from West Harrison High School and then moved on to receive an Associate's Degree from Iowa Western Community College, a Bachelor's Degree from Dana College, and a Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha.  Mrs. Birdsall teaches speech, literature, and English classes.  She is also in charge of West Harrison's high school and elementary libraries.  Mrs. Birdsall's favorite part of teaching is helping students prepare for their futures and knowing that she can make a difference in their lives.  Her favorite class in high school was accounting, and her least favorite class was geometry.  A fun fact about Mrs. Birdsall is that she has directed a church camp for 15 years.  Plus, all of her kids were born on either a holiday or an important date!  When asked about her craziest teaching experience, Mrs. Birdsall said it was 3 or 4 years ago during her last period literature class. The bell rang, and none of the students came to class. A few minutes later, they showed up with a huge homemade birthday card, which she still has to this day.
