Las Fallas is a traditional celebration held annually in commemoration of Saint Joseph in the city of Valencia, Spain. The five main days celebrated are from March 15 to 19 . In Valencia, artists build satirical monuments that are set up in the streets and burned at night on March 19th. Every year, the Spanish classes at West Harrison build their own masterpieces, and we burn them. After that, we like to celebrate Las Fallas by having churros and hot chocolate. This year, the theme was Spring, and the High School Students got help from PK-to 8th grade. It was an amazing experience for them. You can come see Las Fallas in our commons. We will burn them on April 11th. Thanks everybody for your assistance and support.

On Monday March 10th, Mrs. Bieler's 8th grade students participated in the National History Day competition. The National History Day program encourages student to develop critical thinking, research, and communication skills in the development of their projects. This year's theme Rights and Responsibilities encouraged students to look back in history and think critically about how events have shaped these two connected ideas. All of the students learned so much this year and we are so proud of all of them. We have 4 students whose projects were noted for their excellence and will advance to the next level of competition in Ames this April. Khloe Smith will be advancing with her paper written on the All American Girls Professional Baseball League and Aiden King, Justin Cooper, and Easton McIntosh will be advancing with their Group Exhibit on Jesse Owens - Running Against the World. Congratulations Hawkeyes!!
